Field of scientific interests:
Marine geochemistry, geochemistry of trace elements; inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) and its application to the analysis of geological samples, analysis of rare earth elements, Zr, Hf, Mo, W and Th; REE sedimentary geochemistry; marine sedimentation and formation of Fe-Mn ores; land-ocean interaction; geochemical tracers of aqueous processes; suboxic and anoxic diagenesis in marine sediments, forms of reactive iron and sulfur; redox transformations of iron in biogeochemical processes, redox reactions at the surface of Fe-oxides and silicates.

Professional skills:
Analysis of sediment samples: Ability to conduct analysis by ICP-MS; development of analytical techniques for ICP-MS, analysis of standard reference materials; methods of routine chemical analysis. Field experience with sediment and water sampling and onboard chemical analysis; in situ measurements of primary production by 14C labeling; experiments with radiotracers (55Fe). Analysis of forms of reduced sulfur and reactive iron.

Participation in scientific cruises:

  1. October 1999 – Cruise at the Black Sea – seawater sampling, onboard analysis of total Mn in seawater.
  2. June-August 1999 – Two cruises at the White Sea – sediment sampling.
  3. September 1998 – Cruise at the White Sea – sediment sampling.
  4. August-October 1997 – Scientific cruise at the Barents Sea onboard R/V "Akademik S.Vavilov" – 55 days (Arkhangelsk - Franz-Josef Land – Novaya Zemlya – Arkhangelsk). In situ measurements of primary biological production, sampling of sediments and Fe-concretions, onboard chemical analysis of Fe (II)/Fe (III) species in sediments.

2001 – participant of the EU-funded INCO-Copernicus project "Pathways of organic matter and its implication for biodiversity and sustainable uses in the White Sea"
